Daily Invalidation Rate for Washington Referendum 71 Climbs to 15%

Secretary of State spokesman David Ammons writes on the office's blog that about 15 percent of the signatures checked on Thursday was bound to be invalid. That's significant because initiative backers turned in barely enough signatures to qualify putting the measure on the ballot. Some signatures are typically thrown out, so the question is whether initiative sponsors will have enough valid signatures to bring gay marriage to a vote in November. Ammons reports, that initiative would go on the ballot if only 13.54 percent of the signatures, or less, are invalid. Full Story from Seattle PostGlobe
