Florida Synagogue to Perform Commitment Ceremonies for Gay/Lesbian Couples

A synagogue with conservative roots in Pompano Beach, Fla., wants to be the first of its kind in Broward County to hold commitment ceremonies for gay couples. Temple Sholom recently started placing ads in local Jewish newspapers offering "Jewish Covenant of Love" observances. "There was a need out there among the public for something like this," said Rabbi David Mark of Temple Sholom. At his last synagogue, he had to turn away gay couples seeking commitment services. I am afraid the the article is inaccurate.
This temple may be the first Conservative synagogue in Broward County, but Congregation Etz Chaim, in Wilton Manors, a Reform temple, has been performing gay marriages and gay commitment services for the past 35 years and continues to do so.
