Governor Paterson Pushes for Gay Marriage Vote

Gov. David Paterson this morning reiterated his call for the Senate Democrats to put his program bill to legalize same-sex marriage up for a vote, regardless of whether they're sure it will pass, insisting there's actually a precedence for doing so. "The New York State Assembly passed it 89-52 and now it's before the New York State Senate, and I think they feel that when they get the votes they'll put it on the floor," Paterson told Rosanna Scott on "Good Day New York." "But I think in these situations where people's consciences dictate their vote, which is occasional but good, that usually the only way to pass the legislation is just put it on the floor as Governor Pataki put (the) Sexual Orientation Nondiscrimation Act some years ago and it passed and we got more votes than we though we would."
