Iowa City Could Become Gay Marriage Mecca

After the Iowa Supreme Court's decision last month to legalize same-sex marriage, it appears that the Iowa City area could become a hotspot for gay and lesbian weddings. A group of wedding service providers, tourism officials, hoteliers and members of the gay and lesbian communities have created an informal committee to generate ideas of how to market the Iowa City area for same-sex weddings. Josh Schamberger, president of the Iowa City/Coralville Convention and Visitors Bureau, said that one aspect of the effort will be to compile a list of gay-friendly wedding service providers that will be available on the convention bureau's Web site and in its marketing materials.
