Maryland Senator Agrees to Co-Sponsor Gay Marriage Bill

A key Senate committee chairman has agreed to co-sponsor legislation that would legalize same-sex marriage. Sen. Brian E. Frosh, who chairs the Judicial Proceedings Committee, said he plans next year to co-sponsor the bill with Sen. Richard S. Madaleno Jr., who has been the main Senate sponsor since being elected to the chamber in 2006. A major road block, to what is already viewed as a hot button, controversial issue, will be next year’s elections. Almost no one in Annapolis believes a bill supporting gay marriage will pass, especially not in an election year.
