India: Archbishop Calls Gays "Grave Danger to the Social Fabric of Society"

An inter-religious group today met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the issue of consensual gay sex, which was decriminalised by the Delhi High Court earlier this year. Led by Archbishop Vin M Concessao, the Archbishop of Delhi, the group expressed the view that decriminalising unnatural sex posed a grave danger to the social fabric of society and was totally against Indian culture, Delhi Catholic Archdiocese spokesperson Reverend Dr Dominic Emmanuel said. The group said the Christian community did not treat people with gay tendencies as criminals but the Church feared that decriminalising unnatural sex will increase cases of sexually transmitted diseases like HIV/AIDS. Argentina: Parliament Considering Gay Marriage Legalization Nationwide

This week a gay couple in Argentina has received the country's first marriage license. A judge ruled last week that stopping the couple from marriage is a violation of the country's constitutional guarantee to equality. The decision makes Argentina the first country in Latin America to allow same sex marriage. The ruling does not extend beyond the specific case, but Argentina's parliament is now debating two measures that could legalize same sex marriage outright.
