NH: Company Plans to End Domestic Partner Benefits Now That Gay Marriage Legal

One of the region's major employers is changing part of its benefits policy. In the past, Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center has offered benefits to employees' domestic partners, both in gay and straight relationships. But starting in 2011, that will all change. Jason Aldous, spokesman for DHMC, said that the practice of extending benefits to employees' domestic partners was originally to create equality among employees. Now, he said since the laws in several New England states allow every citizen the right to marry or to enter into a civil union, this qualification in the benefits policy isn't needed.
