ME: 45 Catholic Bishops Gave Money to Repeal Gay Marriage in Maine

The defeat of a gay marriage proposal in Maine was made possible by contributions from Catholic bishops and their dioceses all around the country, including many with St. Louis ties. All total 45 bishops contributed to the effort to defeat gay marriage in Maine, donating more than 180-thousand dollars to the effort. Of that amount, nearly half of it came from clerics either originally from St. Louis or with ties to here. 50-thousand dollars from the Philadelphia Archdiocese -- headed by former St. Louis Archbishop, now Cardinal Justin Rigali.
