Councilman Catania to Introduce DC Gay Marriage Bill Within 60 Days

Although the DC Council and Mayor Adrian Fenty are poised to make marriage for same-sex couples a reality in the District of Columbia, this advance is potentially threatened by the remote possibility of a referendum or a more likely a Congressional intervention. Openly gay DC Councilmember David Catania [I-At Large] has drafted a bill. He plans to introduce it soon, but Catania told EDGE he is not playing his hand as to exactly when--describing himself "not eager to telegraph to the other side when I plan to introduce it; but it will be within the next 60 days." With 10 co-sponsors and the support of the mayor, Catania said he is most concerned with outside interests moving in and making waves.
