A candidate who had received massive support from anti-gay groups has been narrowly defeated in a special election for a seat in Iowa’s House.
Republican Stephen Burgmeier was defeated last night by Democrat Curt Hanson, a retired teacher from Fairfield, in his bid for the Iowa House District 90 seat.
According to unofficial results released by the Iowa Secretary of State’s office late Tuesday, the election for the seat vacated by former state Rep. John Whitaker (D-Hillsboro), who was appointed to a position with the USDA by President Obama earlier this year was decided by only 107 votes.
