Republicans in NY Senate Wooing Tom Duane With Gay Marriage Vote Promise

Senate Democrats are gathering in their conference room this morning in an attempt to hash out a deal that would enable them to take back control of the chamber. Sources familiar with the negotiations that have been taking place since last night confirm that Sen. John Sampson continues to be the leading candidate to take over leadership of the Democratic conference, but Malcolm Smith is so far refusing to step aside. ... Meanwhile, another question mark out there is what Sen. Tom Duane will do. There has been a lot of speculation about him since he failed to show up at Smith's post-coup press conference.  The Republicans are reportedly trying to woo Duane with a pledge to bring the gay marriage bill to the floor for a vote.
