CA: APA Shuns Manchester's Hotel in Support of Prop 8 Boycott

The American Psychological Association, which will hold its annual convention in San Diego in August, is the latest group to officially protest San Diego hotelier Doug Manchester's financial support two years ago of California’s gay marriage ban.

While the association is not formally calling for its members to boycott the Manchester Grand Hyatt, its governing body and many of those planning to attend the conference have opted to cancel meetings scheduled at the hotel as a way of expressing their displeasure over Manchester's financial contribution to the successful Proposition 8 campaign to outlaw gay marriage.

The group, which expects to draw 14,000 attendees to its first San Diego convention, acknowledges that it may take a financial hit for its cancellation of some meeting-room bookings, spokeswoman Rhea Farberman said.

It's horrific that the APA is willing to take a financial hit just to support this boycott of Manchester Grand Hyatt. Doug Manchester apologized for his private donation 2 years ago. He has since changed his mind and supports equal rights for all Americans, including all rights afforded by civil marriage. Doug Manchester was once a foe, but is now an ally. Why we as a community continue to ignore that is beyond me. The American Psychological Association claims that it has long-supported full LGBT equality - and EQUALITY - the last time I checked, meant equal rights for ALL - including human beings that make mistakes and take the proper actions to correct their ways - and most importantly - apologize. There are more important battles for us to fight, and we are wasting time, energy and resources with this effort.

The gay community is being treated like pawns by the Unions in this effort. The Unions want to take over this hotel, driven by the millions they will make on employee dues. It's very clear that the leaders of this boycott are misleading the activists involved. Cleve Jones is a paid union employee. This is no longer about Manchester’s donation, its about putting money in union pockets. There is a lot of factual information that Hyatt Corporate put together at www.mghsdtruth.com take a look. It helped me realize that there’s more to this story than what Fred Karger is feeding us. The boycott leaders are in this for their own egos. Just look at Jacobs and Karger….and Cleve Jones is a paid Union employee. They would have called this off long ago if they were the ones that changed Manchester’s mind and got him to make the donation he’s giving to the LGBT community.

I just wanted to set the record straight with hardcore FACTS. This news of the APA makes me sick
