Republican Tries to Block University of Alabama Plan to Offer Health Benefits to Same Sex Partners

A state lawmaker is gar nering support for legislation that would block UAB's plan to offer health insurance benefits to same sex partners, saying the university's new policy is immoral and fiscally irresponsible. Rep. DuWayne Bridges, R-Valley, said support is building among Republicans for a bill that would prohibit the use of tax dollars for domestic partner benefits. "I don't think the university should waste money by making a liberal or politically correct statement," he said Thursday.
