Religious Right Trying to Build Grassroots Campaign to Repeal Gay Marriage in Iowa

A movement is under way that aims to undo the marriage licenses given to same-sex couples since the Iowa Supreme Court legalized gay and lesbian marriages in April. The process won't be easy. Even before the ruling, the Iowa Family Policy Center worked for years to define marriage as a union of a man and a woman. Doing so requires Iowans to vote on a constitutional amendment. An amendment can't go on a statewide ballot until both chambers of the Iowa Legislature pass a resolution in two consecutive legislative sessions.
