Vermont Governor Claims Gay Marriage Will Not Benefit State Economically

The governor of Vermont says marriage rights for same-sex couples won’t bring his state any economic benefit, even though a report released earlier this year indicates otherwise. Gov. Jim Douglas, a Republican, addressed the issue in response to a question the Blade submitted during an event Thursday at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. Douglas called same-sex marriage “a matter of great debate” and “intense personal opinion.” He also noted that he sees the matter “quite differently from other issues that we confront.” Full Story from the Washington Blade: http://www.washblade.com/2009/9-25/news/national/15225.cfm
