WHEN “WILL & GRACE” AND “QUEER As Folk” were in their heyday, it seemed as if gay shows had found a permanent place on the airwaves. But it’s been four years since the crew from “Queer As Folk” bid us farewell, and no show has yet to fill the void created by its departure.
“I think ‘The ‘L’ Word’ was an attempt on a couple of fronts,” says Hal Sparks, who played Michael Novotny on the groundbreaking Showtime series about a group of gay friends in Pittsburgh.
“I think the world in some ways has kind of picked up where we left off — I mean, the drama of gay marriage in this country is right in line with what we were writing on the show,” adds Sparks, who comes to Atlanta for a four-night stand-up gig at The Laughing Skull Sept. 17-20.
