Washington Anti Domestic Partner Petition: Better Than Average Signature Accuracy, May Have Enough for Ballot
The secretary of state's office reports that its initial check of signatures on Referendum 71 - the attempt to repeal Washington's "everything but marriage" same-sex domestic partner law - shows a "better-than-average" accuracy rate.
On Friday the office checked more than 5,000 names with only 11.34 percent rejected.
The average historic signature error rate for citizen referendums and initiatives is 18 percent.
Last week R-71 proponents turned in 137,689 signatures - 14 percent more than the minimum needed to be placed on the November ballot. Whether Referendum 71 will ultimately qualify is still unclear.
