A southern Utah newspaper has rejected a California gay couple's wedding announcement, saying its policy is only to publish announcements for marriages legal under Utah law.
Tyler Barrick and Spencer Young say The Spectrum in St. George initially accepted their paid wedding announcement last week, but then changed course. The couple was legally married June 17, 2008, in San Francisco. They wanted the announcement printed in Young's hometown paper ahead of a family party next week.
In an e-mail exchange with publisher Donnie Welch, Young says the marriage is as valid as other marriages and deserves equal treatment by the paper.
