A new draft law has brought Albania a step closer to gay marriage, stirring up heated discussion among bloggers.
Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha announced a draft law last month which would legalise same-sex marriage. The move has caused no small stir in this traditionally conservative country, where homosexuality was a crime during the rule of communist-era dictator Enver Hoxha.
Though the status of homosexuals changed in the 1990s, many still oppose gay rights. The three main religious communities have spoken out vehemently against the draft law, claiming same-sex marriage is in breach of the country's morals.
