NJ: Gay Marriage Vote Delayed

Supporters of gay marriage are hoping they can change the minds of New Jersey lawmakers who are on the fence.  Today's much-anticipated vote in the state Senate was postponed amid rising speculation that it would have gone down to defeat. The measure cleared committee by one vote. Proponents said they wanted the bill to receive parallel consideration in the Assembly. Lawmakers also want more time to consider an amendment strengthening the religious exemption. The amendment clarifies that religious organizations would not have to perform same-sex weddings or allow them on their property.
