NJ: Asbury Park to Pass Gay Marriage Resolution

City Council members said Wednesday night they plan to approve a resolution in support of marriage equality, possibly as soon as a special meeting scheduled for 10 a.m. Dec. 24 on an unrelated matter. "I think this is part of the path forward," Mayor Ed Johnson said Wednesday. Once passed, Asbury Park would become the fourth municipality in the state to support gay marriage. Previously, Maplewood, Red Bank and South Orange endorsed marriage equality, said Steven Goldstein, chairperson of Garden State Equality, the organization lobbying hard for the state marriage equality bill, now expected to see its next action in January.
