New York lawmakers are returning to Albany today on the orders of Gov. David Paterson. Paterson called for a two-day special session to address the state's $3.2 billion deficit.
Lawmakers made no progress at a special session last week and Paterson wants action taken on the deficit by the end of December. Without a vote, the state many not have enough money to pay its December bills.
Paterson is also pushing state lawmakers to consider a same-sex marriage bill. He's put the bill on the Senate agenda for the special session. Paterson supports gay marriage and says a vote, even if the bill fails, is better than no action at all.
