John Boehner Says Christians Are Born That Way, But Gays Aren't
You were born a Christian, not born gay. Religion is not a choice.
Or so the spokesman for House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) would have you believe. Questioned about why the House's top Republican opposes a hate crimes bill penalizing violence against gays, his spokesman said he "supports existing federal protections (based on race, religion, gender, etc) based on immutable characteristics," just not protections for things like being gay -- which conservatives occasionally claim is a choice.
"He does not support adding sexual orientation to the list of protected classes," Boehner spokesman Kevin Smith added. The statement was made in an email to CBS News.

I read the full story on The Raw Story and I would have added this comment there, except 1) I do not regularly read their blog, as I do Gay Marriage Watch and 2) I hate to admit this, but I could not figure out how to leave a comment on their site! In any case, the full story on The Raw Story, which was followed by comment after comment bashing Republicans, Christianity and religion as a whole, did not add much useful information to the first paragraphs you reprinted. As much as I loathe Boehner and, I admit, most Republicans, I have to say the headline for this article, and most of the text that follows it, is rather misleading. Neither Boehner nor his spokesman Kevin Smith, the only person whom The Raw Story quotes, actually goes so far as to say Christianity is inborn while homosexuality is a choice. At best, one may infer Boehner believes this is true, but if this story is based on such leaps it should be presented as an opinion, not as a fact. The belief that homosexuality is a choice is attributed solely to unnamed "conservatives (who) occasionally claim (homosexuality) is a choice." Whether true or not, stating in the headline - in quotations, no less - that "John Boehner Says Christians Are Born That Way, But Gays Aren't" is a huge leap in logic. While I have no idea what level of quality or veracity The Raw Story normally reaches, I have read enough of your posts, Scott, to ascertain this particular post is far below your usual standards.
