For the first time ever, a group dedicated to supporting gays, lesbians and transgendered people will march in Temecula's Fourth of July parade.
The participation by PFLAG -- Parents, Families, & Friends of Lesbians and Gays -- in the city-organized parade is notable given the region's reputation as a bastion of conservative values.
In 1995, dozens of protesters picketed a Temecula theater showing the NC-17 rated movie "Showgirls." And last November, two-thirds of Temecula voters supported Prop. 8, which banned gay marriage in California.
