Governor Paterson Calls NY Senate Into Special Session

On the final day of the scheduled legislative session, only 31 members of the senate show up in the chamber. It is a familiar scene as the Republicans and rogue Democrat Pedro Espada continue to blast the Democrats for holding up the people's business. But the Democrats say the Republicans are playing a power-grabbing game. ... Gov. Paterson said, "They spoke to me about talks that have now resumed and requested a delay in the special session scheduled for tomorrow. I told them no; the people's business has been delayed long enough." So the governor issued a proclimation that will force all 62 senators to convene an extraordinary session Tuesday at 3 pm. 55 non-controversial bills need to be addressed. But the governor didn't rule out some controversial bills could voted on, including gay marriage. Chief Judge Jonathan Lippmann will preside over that session, an idea still not welcomed by the Republicans. Full Story from Fox 23 News
