A swimming pool facility in eastern Idaho's Lava Hot Springs recently denied same-sex couple Jeri Underwood and Amber Koger, who have three foster children, from receiving a discounted rate that are offered to families.
According to the Lava Hot Springs State Foundation executive director Mark Lowe, lesbian and gay marriages are not recognized in the state, and says that Idaho law must be followed: only heterosexual couples with children qualify for family rates.
In Boise, American Civil Liberties Union spokeswoman Monica Hopkins said that a universal definition of a family doesn't exist, rather state code which defines what marriage is.
