Iowa County Supervisors Try to Use Defense of Marriage Act to Block IA Gay Marriage

Crawford County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday unanimously approved a resolution addressing the Iowa Supreme Court’s ruling that the Iowa statute allowing civil marriage between one man and one woman was unconstitutional. The resolution begins by “asking for a review of the Defense of Marriage Act by the Iowa legislature and the people of Iowa.” Furthermore, the resolution states that the “Supreme Court issued an opinion that is in conflict with that law” and the “Iowa legislature has a duty to check and balance the Iowa judicial branch.” Chairman Mark Segebart remarked that passing the resolution was “an appropriate thing to do” because the Supreme Court ruling “left county recorders all over the state in a dilemma.” Full Story - Click Here
